[EN] This paper presents an empirical study based on the learning environment through different data analysis tools. The study is applied to the subject of Theory of Machines and Materials Resistance of the Chemical Engineering degree at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain), with the aim of being able to understand and optimise with greater knowledge the way of learning taught, to know what is more difficult for the students and to create a more personalised learning environment. In order to achieve this, it is important to have as much information as possible about the use and usefulness of the resources provided to the students as a teacher. Knowing this data will allow us to provide more efficient resources and to change those that, through data analysis, are not being useful to students. The results of this research show how, through applications such as Learning Analytics, greater performance can be obtained in both teaching and learning.

- PublicationDigital Twins. HBIM information repositories to centralize knowledge and interdisciplinary management of architectural heritage(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-21) Cortés Meseguer, Luis; García Valldecabres, Jorge Luis; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible; Centro de Investigación de Tecnología de la Edificación[EN] It is obvious that the primary document will always be the building itself, but within the field of conservation, restoration or maintenance it is necessary to have a large documentary archive where the interventions are recorded. The older the monument is, the greater the knowledge of the built element must be before any intervention and this requires a lot of time in prior research and which can develop prior studies, in addition to the economic cost that it entails. This is why with the advancement of technology and digital repositories, digital platforms can be created within Heritage Building Information Modeling (HBIM). This article reflects the experience of an eight-century-old monument, San Juan of Hospital of Valencia (Spain), in which a virtual twin has been made with software and specific web platforms in facility management such as Archibus©, EcoDomus©, Zutec© that allow the integration of information from BIM models and data acquired through sensors. With this work, although it is economically expensive and requires a lot of time for people specialized in the required programs, is improving the efficiency of facility management. and maintenance planning for large buildings and infrastructure.

- PublicationIntegrated sensor network for monitoring steel corrosion in concrete structures(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2016-06-21) Ramón Zamora, José Enrique; Gandía Romero, José Manuel; Valcuende Payá, Manuel Octavio; Bataller Prats, Román; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Instituto Interuniversitario de Investigación de Reconocimiento Molecular y Desarrollo Tecnológico; Centro de Investigación de Tecnología de la Edificación; Universitat Politècnica de València; Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte[EN] Corrosion is one of the main triggering factors affecting the service life and durability of structures. Several methods are used for corrosion studies but electrochemical techniques are the most commonly applied. Corrosion processes monitoring and control by means of non-destructive techniques, such as the implementation of embedded sensors, has been the target of many works. It is possible to obtain relevant information of structural corrosion processes in real time. This document describes a system including specific equipment and which allows obtaining relevant information about these corrosion processes. This system is formed by a sensor network. There are several types of electrodes, which are distributed throughout the structure under study and a specific equipment developed by the research group, which is used to determine pertinent parameters such as the corrosion potential (Ecorr) and the corrosion density (icorr) by applying sequences of potentiostatic pulses. The system allows to reliably determine the corrosion rate in different areas of the structure. The sensor, due to its configuration, provides information of a specific area of the structure, but on the other hand it is involved in the galvanic events that can occur along the structure by differential aeration, galvanic cells, etc. because the sensor is not isolated from the structure. This system also procures information of buried and submerged elements. Besides, it is possible to obtain information related to temperature, concrete resistance. The system includes specific potentiometric sensors to monitor chloride access and carbonatation processes.

- PublicationInvestigar para restaurar. La iglesia de las Escuelas Pías, Valencia (España)(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-12-23) Soler Estrela, Alba; Cortés Meseguer, Luis; Soler Verdú, Rafael; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación de Tecnología de la Edificación[EN] The Escuelas Pías Church of Valencia stands out for the exceptional features and dimensions of its dome with an internal diameter of 24.5m. Today, it faces conservation problems, which make it necessary to determine the causes of the pathology and proposes corrective measures. Following analysis of documents and a historical-architectural study, an exhaustive data collection was completed, allowing the geometric and condition of the existing constructed fabric to be recorded. Based on the initial evaluation, specific studies are proposed, in this case the focus is on structural behaviour, the definition of the techniques and the materials of the classicist architecture of the Escuelas Pías Church. As a result a proposal is made for the intervention phases necessary for the adequate conservation and integral restoration, together with a research plan to advance the knowledge of its architecture.
[EN] The lack of direct sources of textual documentation about Puente del Real, one of the city’s oldest bridges (the present-day bridge dates from 1599), has obliged research into its constructive and historical evolution to study graphic sources from contemporary periods to confirm its different phases. This entailed studying plans of the city, prints, etchings, paintings and photos produced over the years. The three-dimensional images of the bridge in all these documents, including the topographical plans, have made it possible to determine the true appearance of the different elements it has featured over time. The basic aim of this research is to portray the life of the bridge known as Puente del Real. All the visual and written data gathered was compiled in a series of sequential images making the bridge’s historiography easier to understand. To do so, a series of infographics was produced1 of the different modifications undergone by the bridge. These infographics demonstrate the importance of graphic representation in architectural research: not only as regards geometry and metrics, but also its history, the analysis of its construction, ornamentation and modifications. Images make it possible to portray the biography of an architectonic element.
- PublicationThe Facade of the Church of Saint Francis of Benigànim: the Study during its Restoration(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-06-30) Cortés Meseguer, Luis; Pardo Conejero, José; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación de Tecnología de la Edificación[EN] It is clear that in any rehabilitation works, it is necessary to extract data from the building and analyze this data well to carry out the different studies and conclusions. In this sense, it is necessary to understand the building and its parts in order to determine a more reliable and methodological approach to the conclusions, which, although on many occasions they are still hypotheses, are the most accurate approximation to the true knowledge of the monument. The graphic survey and the generation of documentation such as the geometric and trace study carried out in the process of architectural restoration, allow us to get closer to its authors and determine the character of the monument. The case of the facade of the convent of Benigànim (Valencia) is an example to carry out this methodology.
