- PublicationDejarse caer: ensayo visual sobre los efectos del peso(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-09-29) Granero Ferrer, Alejandro; Dpto. de Escultura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Grupo de Laboratorio de Creaciones Intermedia. LCI[EN] Deprived of horizontality we resist the fall to the point of exhaustion. Exposed to verticality we discover that our body is heavy and wobbles before the abyss of force. However, the void, that stain of the unspeakable that we have not managed to erase from our language, continues to exert its attraction under our feet. Thinking of everything that falls, ripe fruit, tears, blessings or meteors is a way of conjuring up the vertigo that awaits in our guts. To jump into the void is a beginning. Falling to feel the pleasure of rest or that we are still a body. The weight seems to have been taken away and the fall condemned from the beginning of the story. A traumatism that wounds every human body, perhaps, held by force on the cross. The collapse concerns us, but its collapse requires us to be light, immaterial, lifted up and without vertigo. That is, without the possibility of falling. Every day we immerse ourselves in an infinite cascade of scrolls where thousands of images fall behind the glass of our screens. This essay is based on the compilation of some of these images, all of them recovered from the web. The arrangement of the images seeks to escape from a vertical linearity, proposing a series of compositional panels that allude to different concepts related to falling. From the Christian iconography of the crucifixion and baptism to the pleasure of recreational jumping and free fall, passing through the vector of modernity and the multiple collisions and crashes derived from its thrust. Throughout these pages we intend to explore some attempts to fall in order to discover that under the rubble there is a ground, to discover that life that pretends to be governed by force is ungovernable, to feel alive or simply to rest. To let oneself fall in order to wonder about a descent without gravity.
- PublicationEcología global, sensibilidades locales. El rol de las humanidades ambientales frente a la crisis ecosocial contemporánea(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-07-05) Albelda Raga, José; Sgaramella, Chiara; Dpto. de Escultura; Dpto. de Pintura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Centro de Investigación Arte y Entorno; Grupo de Laboratorio de Creaciones Intermedia. LCI[EN] The interdisciplinary research project entitled Environmental humanities. Strategies for ecological empathy and the transition towards sustainable societies investigates the role of ethics, visual arts and literature in the transformation process needed toimplement more eco-compatible cultural models. The ecological and social crisis we face forces us to rethink ourselves as human beings and as a society. Despite the significant techno-scientific advances in the field of energy efficiency and ecosystem restoration, a change in our world view and collective imagination is necessary in order to balance the powerful cultural inertia that characterizes the current paradigm. In this sense, humanities can play a relevant role in forging new values and imagining other forms of social coexistence. This paper analyzes some of the activities presented at the first international seminar carried out at the Polytechnic University of Valencia in November 2016 within the aforementioned research project. Different research methods in the field of humanities are taken into consideration to address the global and local dimension of the transition to sustainability. Firstly, an interdisciplinary approach is proposed for the study of global phenomena such as the energy and climate crisis. Moreover, creative workshops connected to citizen ecological initiatives are implemented to link academic research to local knowledge. Finally, we evaluate the influence and transformative potential of art projects exploring an expanded notionof site specific and adopting collaborative creation processes in dialogue with human communities, biotic and abiotic elements of the ecosystem.

- PublicationEstrategias culturales frente a la crisis ecosocial. Creación audiovisual y participación local en el proyecto Inner Nature Exhibition(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2018-02-13) López de Frutos, Estela; Rodríguez Mattalía, Lorena; Sgaramella, Chiara; Dpto. de Escultura; Dpto. de Pintura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Centro de Investigación Arte y Entorno; Grupo de Laboratorio de Creaciones Intermedia. LCI[EN] INNER NATURE EXHIBITION is a non-profit cultural project that aims to propose a reflection on the eco-social crisis. It is a travelling video art show that interacts with other proposals organized by the different cultural centers that host it at national and international level, generating spaces of encounter, exchange and reflection. In its third edition, the project tries new formulas for relating local contexts to global problems. We urgently need cultural tools to make the ecological crisis visible and to deconstruct the dominant discourses that legitimize an unsustainable system. Issues such as peak-oil or climate change indicate the possibility of an unprecedented eco-social collapse. That is why it is essential to build alternative ways of working in the local contexts to rethink our sense of the common and to simultaneously cooperate with international institutions that can seek answers to shared problems. In this context, we explore the potential of video art as a tool to create awareness, while maintaining a critical viewpoint on the most technophilic discourses that tend to forget that technologies too are dependent on ecosystems. The experience of INNER NATURE EXHIBITION serves as a case study to analyze in practice the main contributions and possible limits of this type of cultural initiatives.
LCI[EN] The mass media are a complex system controlled by power groups and economic elites of building public opinion based on published opinion. Starting from this premise, this article proposes a research-creation work, from a qualitative methodology, through journalistic inquiry and analyisis of texts around the theory of art, taking a tour of historical events of the last century, in parallel with the thought of Walter Benjamin and the concept of aura, to oppose them, in full contemporaneity, with the reply of philosophers and art critics such as Boris Groys or J. L. Brea, who propose a reauration of images, all this Illustrated by an artistic installation project, hybridizing analog and digital disciplines, charging with irony against the manipulation of the media and proposing a space for dissidence.
- PublicationPara los pájaros(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2019-03-26) Martínez Ballester, José Juan; Dpto. de Escultura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Grupo de Laboratorio de Creaciones Intermedia. LCI[EN] We establish here an analogy between various artistic creations not aimed at being perceived by human beings, but rather by other animals, extraterrestrial beings or even deities. Also, the authorship of these creations is not made by professionals from the art world, but from other branches of knowledge such as agriculture or astronomy, or simply gestated in an amateur way.
LCI[EN] In this communication we show the experience gained from participating in an international project and its implementation at the local level.Starting from research on issues that address the relationship between body, city and technology, we begin to experience in the urban space the practice of a series of minimum performances inscribed in the realm of everyday life. After the discovery of a proposal developed in Holland, we deepen the use of the city as a laboratory and stage where we carry out our Unapproved Actions; So we began a series of collaborations with the organizers of the Unnoticed Art Festival, sometimes using the use of mobile devices. This is the case of Parallel Walks, a series of simultaneous parallel walks in which we wandered following the guidelines we send, from one city to another through instant messaging, creating a tour in a third city resulting from both.In this way, collective artistic practices become more accessible and allow us to experience new possibilities that include distance collaborations, translocation, simultaneity and the possibility of performing actions and moving through a hybrid city.
LCI[EN] It is a challenge to introduce students of the first year of the Fine Arts Degree (Teruel Campus - University of Zaragoza) into contemporary artistic dynamics, as is the preparation of those who are in the third and fourth year of the professional world. RECYCLE AND POINT is a teaching activity that relates to the first, third and fourth year students in order to develop the aforementioned competences. This artistic proposal ends up appearing in the public space, providing the students with a real experience, outside the context of the classrooms, in direct relation with the citizens. Participants: the students of the subjects of Volume I (first course) and Design and Management of the Exhibition Space (third and fourth year). Objective in its real application towards the citizenship: to stimulate the recycling. First-year students will reproduce in plaster plastic bottles, soda cans and glass jars of various sizes. They will then work their surface and include the phrase RECYCLE AND POINT in them. On the other hand, the third and fourth year students will be in charge of curating, managing and coordinating the start up of the activity. The pieces will be exposed in the Plaza del Torico and people approaching the place can take one of them giving two recyclable objects. The instruments that are applied are: proposal of the exercise, continuous observation and follow-up of the preparatory practices during lectures and specific tutorials, real application, feedback, critical reflection and sharing of the results obtained and of the lived experiences. This initiative is carried out for the first time in the academic year 2016-17: I will explain the project design, some of the results and a critical review of them.
- PublicationSynchresis 50. Para acercarse a una ontología de la Videomúsica(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-09-29) Scarani, Stefano; Chiner Santapau, Julia; Dpto. de Escultura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Grupo de Laboratorio de Creaciones Intermedia. LCI[EN] Videomusic is a relatively new language and difficult to define due to its hybridization with numerous other related languages. Heir to video art on the one hand and to experimental music, especially in the electroacoustic field, video music has been taking shape as an autonomous language without the formation of an identification under a group or school by the different authors (largely musicians extended to the Visual field). The Synchresis project, created in 2011, set out to collect videomusic works for dissemination in an attempt to define the genre simultaneously by evidencing its multiform features. After a decade since its beginning, we propose a reflection on the results of this initiative.
