- PublicationLa Arquitectura Pop. De la razón al significado, pasando por la existencia(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2013) Val Fiel, Mónica; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño[EN] The direct influence of art on architecture in the 1950s transferred the abstract, mechanistic and rationalist nature of the first wave Avant-gardes and the Modern Movement to a more concrete, complex and contextual one, starting on a journey through informalist existentialism that culminated in the symbolism of Pop Art. Pop Art was responsible for modifying the connections established between form and content and thus the concept of meaning and the symbolic dimension of architecture acquired a different magnitude. The This is Tomorrow exhibition evidenced the limits, modes and different degrees of collaboration between the arts and the change of paradigm. It questioned the synthesis of the arts and the constructivist movement, endorsing the start of the Modern Movement. Pop Art arrived in Europe with the Independent Group (IG) in Great Britain. The movement began to appear in architecture with Alison and Peter Smithson, and together with contributions from Cedric Price, culminated in the Archigram projects.
- PublicationDe la representación a la experiencia. Realidad Aumentada para la interpretación del patrimonio monumental de la Lonja de Valencia(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-10-27) Puyuelo Cazorla, Marina; Val Fiel, Mónica; Higón Calvet, José Luís; Merino Sanjuan, Lola; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Universitat Politècnica de València[EN] The technology employed in virtual graphic representation is in full expansion by means of numerous emerging applications among which we highlight Augmented Reality. Diverse factors converge in this process: the graphic supports, the perceptive experiences or the nature of the devices for their interaction with people. The research 1 project prepared for the Gothic-style Silk Market Building called the “Lonja de los Mercaderes” in Valencia (UNESCO Monument Heritage Site, 1996) has developed the design of an Augmented Reality application with the aim to observe and validate its usability as an accessibility resource to diverse contents of this monumental building complex. The “in situ” experiences have made it possible to record relevant aspects about their contribution in a real context such as: the need to simplify the means to promote the accessibility and autonomy of the user, or the design role of the marks as interaction supports (interface) with the virtual models
- PublicationDiseñando representaciones sencillas de arquitecturas para el aprendizaje y la inclusión(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-03-23) Puyuelo Cazorla, Marina; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Generalitat Valenciana[EN] This article presents a prototype for informal learning about nearby singular architectures, under the concept of a "hands on" educational approach. The contents developed are based on a graphic substrate and are available on an open platform, which proposes inclusive and autonomous learning, offering the possibility of making different representations and products to get to know and learn about the places of reference. The aim of this prototype is to facilitate multiple approaches from the representation, for the realisation of activities with different levels of complexity and results, which allow different architectures to be shown and learnt with rigour and creativity. The hypothesis of this research project is that, through design, learning contents and resources can be generated, with different techniques and technologies, supports and ad hok applications, freely accessible to users, which constitute instruments of experimentation for new forms of learning and accessibility, versatile, economical and competitive. The project has won the Urban ans Social Innovation Award 2021 by the Valencia City Council in the Sustainable City category.
- PublicationEstudio geométrico y morfológico del Puente del Mar de Valencia a través de sus representaciones gráficas(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2013-11-06) Rodrigo Molina, Angeles; Lillo Giner, Santiago; Giner García, María Isabel; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación[EN] There are a number of architectural elements in the Turia riverbed which have been developed over the centuries: bridges, embankments, ornamental elements, etc...Their capital importance for the historical and artistic heritage of the city of Valencia along with the little attention they have received so far, raised the need to pursue their study and cataloging. This paper analyzes one of the most emblematic elements integrating the Turia riverbed from a morphological and geometrical perspective, that is, the Puente del Mar bridge. The backbone of the present research focuses on deepening the potential of graphical representation tools for recovery, preservation and enhancement of the architectural heritage, coupled with the consideration that the drawing itself has, i.e. be the generator of architectural production.
- PublicationREPRESENTACIONES VIRTUALES Y OTROS RECURSOS TÉCNICOS EN LA ACCESIBILIDAD AL PATRIMONIO CULTURAL(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Puyuelo Cazorla, Marina; Val Fiel, Mónica; Merino Sanjuan, Lola; Felip Miralles, Francisco; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño[EN] This paper presents a synoptic study on the use of some graphic technologies such as VR Virtual Reality, AR Augmented Reality and VE Virtual Environment that can be used to increase the appreciation and full experience of heritage sites as resources for accessibility. This analysis familiarises us with these technologies and their suitability for each heritage asset in relation to users with disabilities. Their use on heritage sites seeks to bring these places to people in a new way, changing their role from a passive to a fully active one.
- PublicationSECUENCIAS GRÁFICAS DEL PUENTE DEL REAL DE VALENCIA ENTRE LOS SIGLOS XVI Y XXI(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2010) Rodrigo Molina, Angeles; López González, Concepción; Navarro García, Mª Luisa; García Valldecabres, Jorge; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Dpto. de Construcciones Arquitectónicas; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación de Tecnología de la Edificación[EN] The lack of direct sources of textual documentation about Puente del Real, one of the city’s oldest bridges (the present-day bridge dates from 1599), has obliged research into its constructive and historical evolution to study graphic sources from contemporary periods to confirm its different phases. This entailed studying plans of the city, prints, etchings, paintings and photos produced over the years. The three-dimensional images of the bridge in all these documents, including the topographical plans, have made it possible to determine the true appearance of the different elements it has featured over time. The basic aim of this research is to portray the life of the bridge known as Puente del Real. All the visual and written data gathered was compiled in a series of sequential images making the bridge’s historiography easier to understand. To do so, a series of infographics was produced1 of the different modifications undergone by the bridge. These infographics demonstrate the importance of graphic representation in architectural research: not only as regards geometry and metrics, but also its history, the analysis of its construction, ornamentation and modifications. Images make it possible to portray the biography of an architectonic element.
[EN] The Casa de Armas, which occupied the northeast corner of the walled citadel of Valencia, has been, since its inception, one of the most outstanding fortified enclaves in the city. Since t he sixteenth century, various elements have been built around the L’Esperó tower to form a space primarily intended to the custody of the weapons of the Generalitat eighteenth century, with the advent of the Bourbon dynasty, the building suffered a major renovation process, among which the construction of a new bastion in a vertex of the Plaza de Predicadores had a great impact on the external image of the ensemble. The present work analyzes some fundamental aspects that contribute to acquire new knowledge regarding this construction, especially those related to its structure, morphology, materials and its relation to preexisting constructions. The analysis of the data collected has allowed us to include new sources of study such as the planimetric survey of the whole architectural ensemble considering its evolution through different historical stages
- PublicationUnos graffiti inéditos en las torres de Quart de Valencia(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2016-05-09) Monsoriu Serra, Juan Antonio; Torres, Ana; Llopis, Jorge; Villaplana, Ramón; Dpto. de Física Aplicada; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Centro de Tecnologías Físicas: Acústica, Materiales y Astrofísica[EN] During restoration of the Torres de Quart in Valencia (15th C.) some puzzling yet very beautiful graffiti were discovered. They consist of a set of drawings containing motifs commonly found in other medieval defensive buildings: architectural features, crosses, letters, floral motifs, etc. But what makes these so striking is the naturalism of the zoomorphic representations, with scenes of fish and shoals of fish in a very engaging style. We discuss the possible interpretation of these graffiti and why they appear on the southernmost entranceway to the city, against the cultural backdrop and customs of a post-medieval Valencia.
