- Publication2.5D images based on reflectance information for the interpretation of architectural heritage(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-12-22) García-Fernández, J.; Junta de Castilla y León; European Social Fund[EN] The evolution of the different documentation and renderization techniques has made substantial improvements in the representation and preservation of cultural heritage in the last 20 years. In the field of photogrammetry, Reflectance Transformation Images (RTI) for interactive representation of the geometric properties of surfaces, are an effective tool for the interpretation and preservation of cultural heritage. The need for specific light conditions and camera positions for RTI generation, have limited its application in the field of archaeology of architecture and urbanism, and has narrowed the application to small objects such as artifacts, sculptures, inscriptions, among others. This study proposes a new workflow that eliminates the dependence on external conditions and scale for representing surfaces of architectural heritage from RTI images. This workflow starts with the three-dimensional virtual reconstruction based on photogrammetric methods and concludes with the generation of 2.5D images based on RTI. The workflow will be demonstrated using a 2.5D representation of the interior topography of the ruins of the Castle Villagarcía de Campos in Spain in order to identify undocumented historical traces.
- Publication20 años de Europan en España(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-12-29) Carmona Belda, Marita[EN] Europan was launched in Spain, and now is one of the most important generators of habitation ideas in Europe. The article takes two aspects as its starting point: the first aspect is based on the theoretical approaches of the competition since it began in 1988, and the second on the social housing constructions in Spain. Ultimately, after studying the theory and practice behind Europan, the goal is to offer an approximation to the lifestyles in Spain during the turn of century, and through its contributions after more than 20 years of existence.

- Publication2001-2008. Construcciones Rurales en Joanópolis(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) UNA arquitetos[EN] The Joanópolis House was designed for friends who frequent the Finca Carambó, two kilometres away, where we built a barbecue area in 2002. The region is the beginning of the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain range, at an altitude of 1,000 metres, on the border between São Paulo and Minas Gerais. The group of houses is on the edge of the Piracaia dam, which is part of the capital's water supply system. Nearby is the neighbourhood of Lopo, the old Bandeirantes road and a stop for livestock drovers in the 19th century. The Carambó pPavilion is built on the Carambó Farm, located on the border of the states of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, near the city of Joanópolis, at an altitude of 1000 metres in the Serra da Mantiqueira. The farm is located in a large pasture valley whose surrounding mountains are covered by a native forest. There was already a house there, built on a plateau at the intermediate level between the top and the bottom of the valley. It is a reconstruction of an old house in the Lopo neighbourhood, a 19th century mule drivers' stop, which was on the verge of being demolished.
- Publication2001-2017. Centro Universitario Maria Antônia USP(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) UNA arquitetos[EN] The renovation and restoration project seeks to adapt the complex (Ed. Rui Barbosa and Joaquim Nabuco) to its new use - a contemporary art centre that brings together exhibition spaces, rooms for theoretical and practical courses and a University Theatre - and has the central objective of affirming the public character that has historically marked this USP heritage site. The proposal includes the restoration of the main façades, keeping the volumes of the Rui Barbosa and Joaquim Nabuco buildings intact, but proposes a new relationship between the complex and the city. The free space between the two buildings acquires the dimension of a public space, forming a small square. At street level, this square is the natural widening of the pavement and defines a welcoming access to the complex. At the lower level, a tree-lined courtyard connects the two buildings, creating an open-air performance space for the theatre. The project's contribution to the memory of the academic, cultural and political movement that had its headquarters on Maria Antônia Street is to enhance the open spaces, offering a generous link between the complex and the city.
- Publication2003 CAP Reform. An assessment of its impact on the surface, rainfed yields and crop diversity in Spain(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2012-11-26) Ruiz, Jorge; Bardají, Isabel; Garrido, Alberto; Iglesias, Eva[EN] This article evaluates the impacts of the 2003 CAP reform and the implementation of the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) on surface, rainfed crops’ yields and crops diversification in Spain. Using surface data, a statistical analysis is performed to isolate the effect of the SPS with respect to the tendency of the period 1995-2009. Moreover, the impact on the yields of the major rainfed production is analyzed. Finally, an analysis of the production diversity is carried out. Since the introduction of the single payment, the reform has accentuated the response on the market of rainfed crops, which are characterized by a concentration and intensification of production. It had also significant negative effects in the Total Arable Land, including total rainfed and irrigated components.
- Publication2009 - 2026. PERONNES. Escuela de vela y polideportivo, Péronnes-lez-Antoing(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2024-04-29) AgwA + Artgineering[EN] The Grand Large project in Péronnes-lez-Antoing restructures and expands a public sports center (Adeps), located on an artificial island adjacent to the vast water basin along the Nimy-Blaton canal and the lock leading to the Scheldt river. This project encompasses a phased renovation and extension plan. It aims to replace outdated and asbestos-laden prefabricated buildings with new structures while deeply renovating more recent constructions. The sports center remains operational throughout all phases.
- Publication2012-2017. Casa en Cotia(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) UNA arquitetos[EN] The design of a house always presupposes a commitment to accommodating family relationships. To set the scene for childhood, for the journey of life, and to establish the scales of measurement for the world. At the same time, the project is understood as a rehearsal, a possibility for many other constructions. This one, in particular, seeks to reinforce walking, the stroll as a way of perceiving the place. Times that coexist. The large corner plot was already densely wooded, opposite the access avenue, where there was a clearing. Thus, the project takes advantage of this free area, protects its inhabitants from the noise of the street and opens onto a small patch of woodland. The challenge is to build a new site by extending its qualities. The construction, in section, adapts to the geography, an area close to São Paolo with low hills. The floor plan allows for integration between the interior and exterior, which alternate, interweave and complement each other with water, fire and vegetation. Four planes built from three parallel retaining walls organise the landscape.
- Publication2012-2021. Edificio de apartamentos Huma Itaim(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) UNA arquitetos[EN] The neighbourhood of Itaim, close to Avenida Faria Lima, is undergoing a profound transformation. The former occupation of small two-storey houses has been replaced by towers. The project seeks to insert itself into this context as a kind of mediation between different times. The site has a special location, opening onto three streets and incorporating two corners. While the direct neighbouring building is a new 20+ storey residential tower, the proposed building is similar in scale but set back from the corners. On the ground floor the occupation strategy leaves almost 50% of the private plot as public area. A square is configured connecting three of its fronts, establishing continuity with the neighbourhood's pavements. The square, half covered and half uncovered, includes a café, gardens, benches and a water line. It establishes a new standard of urbanisation, desirable in a city whose public spaces are neglected. In this way, collective activities are enhanced, distributed vertically and establishing direct communication with the city.
- Publication2013 - 2014. [EN] This modest project tackles the challenge of enhancing outdoor space for a municipal kindergarten nestled in a bustling neighborhood of Antwerp. The task: to ingeniously integrate a walkable platform of exactly 100 square meters into a compact courtyard, bordered by classroom wings on three sides and a party wall crowned with a typical Flemish pitched roof. The precise figure of 100 square meters is dictated by regulatory requirements and the project's financial constraints.
- Publication2015 - 2024. [EN] In Charleroi, a formerly prominent industrial city on the southern side of Belgium, stands a large Exhibition Hall. This exceptionally sizable building of 60 000 m² is left largely underused due to the difficulty of appropriating such broad volumes in a shrinking industrial context. Nowadays, a city of the scale of Charleroi can make use of at most 25.000 m² of exhibition halls, about a third of the available space.
- Publication2016 - 2019. DURLET. [EN] The extension of the Durlet school presents a study in straightforward geometrical forms amidst a complex urban backdrop. This project playfully navigates the interplay between volumetry and construction. The site hosts a neo-Flemish Renaissance court building from the late 19th century, accompanied by three wings refurbished in the 1960s. The city's intention to add a fourth wing, mirroring the original design, was complicated by the presence of an adjacent apartment block established in the 1970s. Urban regulations imposed a distinct volumetric approach from the existing structures.
- Publication2016 - 2022. [EN] In the heart of a densely populated and diverse neighborhood, two neighboring municipalities have acquired a former office building to alleviate the acute shortage of secondary school facilities in Brussels. The initial phase addresses the urgent transformation of a first wing into classrooms to host the gradually increasing number of students. Capitalizing on the building's original open-plan concrete structure, the design reuses and adapts the system of lightweight, modular partition walls present on site, enhancing the space's inherent flexibility and creating an informal atmosphere that fosters appropriation. The project's second phase expands on this strategy, addressing the extension of the building with a sports hall, a restaurant and more classrooms.
- Publication2017 - 2020. [EN] Verbiest consists in the transformation of an abandoned warehouse situated in a dense urban block. It embodies an architectural exploration challenging conventional notions about material use, the economics of construction, environmental consciousness, comfort and programmatic expectations. This project also questions the recurrent confusion between circularity and reuse labels, and conspicuous consumption. A guiding principle was set: to eschew the use of new concrete and steel, instead embracing the warehouse's existing concrete structure.
- Publication2019-2021. Casa Juquiá(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) , UNA MUNIZVIEGAS[EN] Let's imagine that whoever builds a house in São Paulo seeks to blur the boundaries between open and closed spaces, inside and outside, covered and uncovered, taking advantage of our climate. The project interprets this desire in a ten-metre wide plot, typical of the pleasant Jardim Paulistano neighbourhood, a privileged part of the city with commerce, services, trees and infrastructure. The design aims to surround the house with gardens, terraces and balconies that extend into the interiors to form a unique environment. The main approach is to arrange the construction longitudinally on the site, in a linear fashion, keeping half of the width free at five metres. Thus, the vegetation is located on the north side, ensuring a retreat for sunlight and permanent aeration of the house that rests on the opposite edge. The plot expands, leaving the greatest length free, reinforcing this perception of spaciousness with balconies, patios and the transparency of the living room.
- Publication2019-2023. Club en Campinas(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-10-27) , UNA MUNIZVIEGAS[EN] The architecture of São Paulo produced exemplary clubs and spas. It is a programme that migrated to the common areas of new urbanisations. Basically, a shade that shelters the collective uses of parties, gymnastics, changing rooms and the construction of swimming pools and sports areas. The site of this project is located in Campinas, on the outskirts of the metropolis. From the ground it is possible to see the city skyline, with the slight slope favouring this panorama. The choice of the building's level of implantation allows visual continuity for pedestrians on the upper access road, delicately constructing a long line in the landscape. A single roof interconnects the double-height rooms, alternating full and empty, open and closed spaces.
