- PublicationLa cursiva revisitada: referentes para el diseño de las variantes cursivas de la tipografía Alaia(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Quindós González, Tania; González-Miranda, Elena[EN] In this study we go back to the Italian Renaissance, in order to understand the genesis of the Italic or Cursive typeface. These early fonts were born with the intention of saving space on the page. Currently, their use is not the same, but they are the letters that have evolved into our digital fonts and those that we choose as Italic/Cursive fonts in our editing or typesetting programs. This knowledge, the result of the study of these and other contemporary references, has been channelled towards the creation of two italic variants of the Alaia typeface. The last section of the current work shows the process of creation, drawing and preliminary development of the signs, turned into their typographic samples.
- PublicationEl Diseño y el rechazo del ornamento(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Velasco Aranda, Rosario; Sanz, Joan[EN] This article analyzes the relationships between ornament, crafts and design through a historical review. We explore the origin of the use of ornament, linked to crafts, and its relationship with art, both producers of symbolic meanings. In this way, the article studies the tensions between function/ornament, as well as between design/Art. A view back to the historical facts and its analysis reveals the progressive symbiosis between decorative arts in design and the socio-economic and cultural context where they take place. To illustrate that, we reflect on current motivations to give the object a symbolic dimension through the use of design.

- PublicationMarcas con valores(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Canavese Arbona, Ana; Dpto. de Pintura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Centro de Investigación Arte y Entorno[EN] In this new market era, where there are more and more brands and products with the same attributes, users are looking for additional motivators to justify their buying choice. Companies’ brand values are increasingly essential to provide emotional benefits that generate preference and lasting ties with their users.Considering strategic values such as sustainability, simplicity, transparency, closeness, accessibility, and inspiration, the brands of the future will help people create their identity, achieving their challenges and motivations. Due to this ability to influence, brands are taking an increasingly relevant role in building society.

- PublicationPresencia y función del paisaje en el cartel cinematográfico contemporáneo(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Palacios-Ferri, Alicia; Marín Jordá, Eva[EN] In this article, the presence and semantic function of the landscape in the contemporary film poster is raised. Initially, a brief historical tour of the cinema poster is carried out, reviewing the different styles in which they are inscribed; in addition to establishing a definition, both conceptual and graphic. For this purpose, the graphic and typographical elements that make it up are listed and studied following the North American and European trends. The film poster is presented as a visual synthesis of the plot of the film and visual identity. Due to this link between the representational image and the content of the film several posters are analyzed, examining their graphic aspects in relation to the representation of the landscape in them. The absence or presence of this landscape representation, and its interaction with the rest of the elements that make up the poster, reveal the importance that this has had in its filmic use.
- PublicationLa sostenibilidad en el diseño museográfico(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Lleonart García, Melani; Dpto. de Pintura; Facultad de Bellas Artes; Centro de Investigación Arte y Entorno[EN] The production of temporary or mobile exhibitions consumes a large amount of material resources, most of which are difficult or impossible to recycle. In this working methodology, incorporating accessibility criteria and the concepts from sustainable design and the circular economy to analyze and predict the impact of materials in the development and design process is essential. The reduction and reuse of supports, as well as the replacement of classic plastic materials by others of ecological production, reusable and recyclable, such as wood, cardboard and paper of sustainable origin, are excellent alternatives to the usual supports. Innovation in improving plastic materials to offer lower impact alternatives and technological applications also offer alternatives to limit the use of ephemeral communication media.
- PublicationVíctor Papanek y ecodiseño(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Marrero, Alba; Vigil, Pablo[EN] Sustainability in creation processes is a responsibility that designers should assume. Since the last century, great theorists such as Victor Papanek have helped lay the foundations for ecodesign to establish criteria for environmental sustainability, facilitating the consolidation of design ethics and its relationship with social problems. In the first decades of the 21st century, these principles not only endured, but were developed and adapted to meet new demands from the different areas of design. In this article we review when these principles are formulated and how they are applied today.
- PublicationWork in progress. Democràcia. De palabras, imágenes y objetos(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2021-05-31) Sanfeliu Tortosa, Javier[EN] In this article we will talk about the way we work out our branding projects, and the difference that our holistic vision brings us when it comes to contextualize and frame design and art direction projects.
