- PublicationLA ACUARELA Y EL ARQUITECTO.
- PublicationLA ARQUITECTURA DE LOS DIOSES. DIBUJANDO EN PAESTUM(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Báez Mezquita, Juan Manuel[EN] Notes about Greek Doric architecture taken by the experience acquired by drawing three temples in Paestum: the Basilica, Neptune and Ceres. Here you will find some of the drawings made in situ, with some comments about the architecture and the technique used.
- PublicationLOS AUTOMATISMOS FORMALES EN LA ARQUITECTURA. REFLEXIONES CRÍTICAS(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Piquer Cases, Juan Carlos; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio[EN] Architecture as art within the science has evolved as the construction technology has made it. The morphology of unique buildings, in the last twenty years, is inexorably associated with the use of certain architectural design software, which has opened an important topic for reflection and debate. It is necessary to analyze and question about the new spaces that begin to take hape from the artificial intelligence of computer that are transforming architecture. This article aims to provide a series of reflections on this issue and open a debate necessary.
- PublicationEL CARMEN DE LA FUNDACIÓN RODRÍGUEZ-ACOSTA. UNA INDAGACIÓN GRÁFICA(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Rivas López, Esteban José[EN] The work attempts to reveal the complex process of architectural synthesis of the Carmen de la Fundación Rodríguez-Acosta. Working with the base of unpublished documents obtained in various archives, we aim to show how the events surrounding its origin really occurred, in a process which we may call graphic inquiry. When we approach the architecture of the Carmen Blanco, mainly through the analysis of drawings plotted by different architects who participated in its process of projection, we can most definitely say that the work was born principally from the hands of two architects: Modesto Cendoya Busquet and José Felipe Giménez Lacal.
- PublicationLA CARTOGRAFÍA ESPAÑOLA DE LAS COSTAS DE NORTEAMÉRICA DE LOS SIGLOS XVI AL XVIII: APORTACIONES AL CONTEXTO CIENTÍFICO INTERNACIONAL(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Chias Navarro, Pilar[EN] The main European naval powers showed a great interest about the recently discovered territories of North America, due to their strategic position in order to plan the future wars and settlements. Their cartographers drew a great amount of manuscript and printed maps and charts, whose features and accuracy varied depending on the particular targets and the technical advances that were applied to it. The present article aims to expose the Spanish scientific contributions to the international context, as well as to spread the Spanish maps and charts drawn along the 16th-18th Centuries. This part of our Cultural Heritage still remains unknown to the international scientific community.
- PublicationCOLOR Y ESPACIO, PRÁCTICA Y TEORÍA. Reflexiones con Matthias Sauerbruch y Mark Wigley(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Serra Lluch, Juan de Ribera; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio[EN] This text is the result of some reflections raised in individual interviews both with architect Matthias Sauerbruch and Mark Wigley. Matthias Sauerbruch, together with Louisa Hutton, has developed an architectural career in which color has played an outstanding role and a consistent implementation. Mark Wigley, dean of the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University, is a prominent architect with numerous studies on leading matters related to architecture. With regard to color in architecture, it highlights his writing ¿White walls, designer dresses.¿ Both interviews were carried out during the congress ¿More for less¿, held in Pamplona from 9th to 11th of June of 2010. We express our most sincere thanks to both Matthias and Mark for their generous contribution, and of course to the congress¿ organization.
- Publicationconversando con... MVRDV(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) González Aurignac, Esther Antonia; Mossel, Tom[EN] MVRDV was founded in 1993 in Rotterdam by Winy Maas (Schijndel, 1959), Jacob van Rijs (Amsterdam, 1964) and Nathalie de Vries (Appingedam, 1965). From their earliest projects, such as the headquarters of VPRO (TV station) in Hilversum or the Wozocos building (old people¿s home) in Amsterdam, they surprised the architecture world and gained international renown. The design process is based on researching numerous facts and factors which limit current architecture and urbanism. Their trademark observation and interpretation of the reality into which their projects are introduced, or `implanted¿ produces unexpected results. For them, architecture, urbanism and research are the engines of future innovation, proof of which can be found in the foundation,¿The Why Factory¿, in collaboration with TU Delft . The Why Factory is an architecture and urbanism research institute.
- PublicationDIBUJAR EL PABELLÓN DE ESPAÑA PARA LA EXPOSICIÓN UNIVERSAL DE SHANGHAI 2010(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Gilabert Sanz, Salvador[EN] The Pavilion of Spain, has been a challenge at all levels: conceptual, realization, etc. The wicker baskets inspired geometry, oneform that is structure, space and facade. The geometric of the volume, was created from a grid of two families who faithfully follows this surface, from horizontal and vertical sections, to approach each one of them with straight and curved lines with default radios. The drawing method used, is able to create space from the linear elements of an easily buildable.
- PublicationEL DIBUJO DE LA INDETERMINACIÓN. PROGRAMA, ACONTECIMIENTO Y TIEMPO EN CEDRIC PRICE Y REM KOOLHAAS(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Jerez, Fernando[EN] This communication is part of a wider investigation in the context of my Phd, supplemented by a series of interviews with Peter Cook, Rem Koolhaas and Bernard Tschumi. It is also a continuation and development of the communication entitled ¿The drawing of Uncertainty: notations, diagrams, maps and 2.0¿ presented at the XIII International Congress of Architectural Graphic Expression in Valencia in 2010. This study shows for various reasons, first, specific investigations in the field of architectural drawings are rare in this area, second is the need to re-write this concept in light of the present moment to open and build a line of Research on architecture design.
- PublicationEL DIBUJO Y LAS VIDAS DE LOS EDIFICIOS(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Ortega Vidal, Javier; Martínez Díaz, Ángel; Muñoz de Pablo, María José[EN] In the quandary and current debate on the implementation of new media in the documentation of Architecture, this article highlights the need to preserve the traditional values of the architectural drawing, proposing its nuclear role in the concept of Graphic Life as a place of integration of the new media and the old purposes for progressing in the knowledge and diffusion of the Architecture.
- PublicationEXPRESIONISMO ARQUITECTÓNICO E IMAGINACIÓN(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Morán, Adolfo[EN] If, as said Aristotle, the imagination is the common sense acting, it is interesting to see how the modern Expressionism is a manifestation of feelings, as an imaginative explosion. However Expressionist architecture processes have more to do with the subjectivity of uncontrolled imagination, than with processes in which the imagination is controled voluntarily by the artist. Although all the rationalism implies a subjective character because its method is based on each thinker only accepting what appears to himself as something clear and distinct, the expressionist architecture is what better represent the subjetive concerns and the imaginary worlds of modern architects.
[EN] The objective is to establish a relationship between project design and designer will analyze the history, focusing on software design. Studying the BIM (Building Information Modeling), as a tool to design, that allows controlling and representing complex shapes, this will evolve the architectural form. It will analyze the connectivity of BIM technology, the development of implementation projects and the requirements of existing legislation, which involves simulating virtual buildings. The article draws conclusions on how to plan and control over the project.
- PublicationLA IDEA GENERADA EN EL GERUNDIO CREATIVO.
[EN] If classical definition of drawing is understood as the delineation of a model, and taking into account that drawing is the main architectural communication tool, according to this axiom, line is the language of architects. This language whose rules were fixed by classical geometry codes have evolved to the extent that drawing, more than a tool of representation, is now understood as a project¿s mechanism for analysis, development and genesis.
- PublicationMÉTODO INTERACTIVO PARA LA RESTITUCIÓN DE PERSPECTIVAS CÓNICAS SOBRE PANTALLA CILÍNDRICA, APLICADO AL 'DIORAMA' PARA LA EXPOSICIÓN 'LA NOVA BARCELONA' (1934) OBRA DEL GATEPAC(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Santana Roma, Galdric; Ávila Casademont, Genís[EN] Providing a new and simple interactive method that allows precise restitution conical perspectives on cylindrical screen through editing vector in "real time" of a pre-calculated grid. The method has been developed and implemented as a result of the request for re-exposing the restored "diorama" which was first introduced in 1934 for the exhibition "La Nova Barcelona" of GATEPAC on a cylindrical wall in the basement of "Plaça Catalunya" in Barcelona. The restitution has also allowed to check the dimensional geometric rigor used to fit the panorama drawing in question.
- PublicationLA PERCEPCIÓN DEL ESPACIO EN LA VISUALIZACIÓN DE ARQUITECTURA MEDIANTE REALIDAD VIRTUAL INMERSIVA(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Hernández, Luis; Taibo, Javier; Seoane, Antonio; Jaspe, Alberto[EN] Immersive virtual reality constitutes a powerful tool for the vivid exploration of virtual spaces. The feeling of presence produced in the user by the action of seeing the digital space just pointing the view in any direction is greatly enhanced when adding the capability of walking physically during the experience. This paper describes aspects related with the experimentation of this hybrid space, real and virtual at the same time, that was implemented by the authors in an immersive virtual reality museum installation called ¿The Empty Museum¿.
- PublicationPROYECTAR EL CONTEXTO. SOBRE LA EVOLUCION RECIENTE DEL CONCEPTO DE REHABILITACIÓN EN ARQUITECTURA(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2012) Bigas Vidal, Montserrat; Bravo Farré, Luis; Contepomi, Gustavo[EN] We analyze the evolution of the concept of rehabilitiation in architecture. We will part from the ideas of Ruskin and Viollet-Le-Duc, past the break catalyzed by the emergence of the Modern Movement, which introduces various organic interpretations in the second half of the twentieth century until, finally, a contemporary appreciation of the role of context in architecture takes place. We methodolologically exemplify this with particular EMBT (Miralles-Tagliabue) studio projects to establish that the architect, in this new approach, takes not only into account the building preexistences, but considers the ever transforming evolution of the global context (cultural, historical, physical, social,...) as the project's true aim.
- PublicationSER Y DEVENIR EN LOS DIAGRAMAS. Huellas y protoformas como subtexto arquitectónico: de Deleuze a Eisenman(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2011) Marcos, Carlos L.[EN] The use of diagrams as design tools has enriched recent architectural debate and has produced an alternative course for the process of ideation in architecture. However, diagrams and schemes are often confused with each other ignoring the constraints that the topological conceptualization of the latter entails. The paper attempts to examine the analytical and generative qualities of the diagrams using Eisenman¿s architecture and his theoretical discourse as a reference, while establishing the connections between his work and the philosophy of Deleuze. Half way between being and becoming diagrams differ from drawings or schemes operating as mediators between matter and form.
