Portugal(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2008-09-17) Graça Correia y Roberto Ragazzi, Arquitectos[EN] The Design of the house entails the reconstruction and extension of a ruin for a weekend home in a place of extraordinary morphological characteristics, bordering on the River Cávado and an affl uent stream. The land, 4,060m2, is in an area of natural protection, this being the reason why no tree on the plot can be uprooted. Nevertheless, the existence of a preexisting building makes construction legitimate. From the fi rst visit it was clear that this was a very delicate project. Siting of the house was fundamental, since the location was clearly the reason for its construction.
- PublicationCarmen en Ciudad Real(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2008-09-17) Bernalte-León y asociados, Estudio de arquitectura[EN] n one of the expansion areas in the city, surrounded by typical detached housing state development, we fi nd a plot - happily released from current construction speculation. The proximity of the national motorway towards Extremadura made the surrounding all the more unlikely as a candidate for an oasis. However there was a very strong will and concern among our clients to create a private garden and thus we considered the possibility of creating a “CARMEN” in La Mancha with all the implications of the term.

Gerona(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2008-09-17) Hidalgo·Hartmann, Arquitectos[EN] Located in an agricultural valley and surrounded by mountains, the house is the respectful protagonist of its natural surroundings, integrating with the fi elds and with the views, in an open space, framing the landscape. With its extended, not-too-high profi les, this house works as a link to the different surroundings which are captured in its interior: porches and patios under the long cover sheltering them.
- PublicationVivienda unifamiliar en La Moraleja, Madrid(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2008-09-17) Vicens + Ramos, Estudio de arquitectura[EN] L-shaped, protecting the entrance at a high elevation, this house was built as two storeys on an incline, and one below the incline for a garage. The volume as laid out rests on land clearly defi ned at two main elevations: an access elevation, at Camino de la Huerta, and a higher one giving access to the house, ranking it by this difference in level.
- PublicationCasa "Bom Jesus" II en Bom Jesus-Braga. Portugal(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2008-09-17) Eduardo Souto de Moura, Arquitecto[EN] From the exterior, the volume looms up rounded and impassable, very jealous of its own intimacy. The concrete, rugged and imposing, helps reinforce this idea of an introverted place. Five cypress trees dominate the entrance space offsetting the horizontal nature of the walls of the house. The path leading to the access door is set between the pond and the sloping vegetable cover. The entrance porch, a hollow in the blank concrete wall, is the result of a displacement between two volumes of concrete, one resting on the other, and bounded on purpose by the shuttering process. On the side opposite the entrance, where the plot drops to form south-facing layered terraces, the house shows its more open face with a generous opening on the ground fl oor which allows all the rooms to be illuminated up during the day.
