- PublicationComparative study of speed estimators with highly noisymeasurement signals for Wind Energy Generation Systems(Elsevier, 2011-03) Carranza Castillo, Oscar; Figueres Amorós, Emilio; Garcerá Sanfeliú, Gabriel; González Morales, Luis Gerardo; Dpto. de Ingeniería Electrónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Grupo de Sistemas Electrónicos Industriales; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; Instituto Politécnico Nacional, MéxicoThis paper presents a comparative study of several speed estimators to implement a sensorless speed control loop in Wind Energy Generation Systems driven by power factor correction three-phase boost rectifiers. This rectifier topology reduces the low frequency harmonics contents of the generator currents and, consequently, the generator power factor approaches unity whereas undesired vibrations of the mechanical system decrease. For implementation of the speed estimators, the compared techniques start from the measurement of electrical variables like currents and voltages, which contain low frequency harmonics of the fundamental frequency of the wind generator, as well as switching frequency components due to the boost rectifier. In this noisy environment it has been analyzed the performance of the following estimation techniques: Synchronous Reference Frame Phase Locked Loop, speed reconstruction by measuring the dc current and voltage of the rectifier and speed estimation by means of both an Extended Kalman Filter and a Linear Kalman Filter. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
- PublicationSensitivity Study of the Dynamics of Three-Phase Photovoltaic Inverters With an LCL Grid Filter(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, 2009) Figueres Amorós, Emilio; Garcerá Sanfeliú, Gabriel; Sandia Paredes, Jesús; González Espín, Francisco José; Calvo Rubio, Jesús; Dpto. de Ingeniería Electrónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Grupo de Sistemas Electrónicos Industriales[EN] An accurate small-signal model of three-phase photovoltaic (PV) inverters with a high-order grid filter is derived in this paper. The proposed model takes into account the influence of both the inverter operating point and the PV panel characteristics on the inverter dynamic response. A sensitivity study of the control loops to variations of the dc voltage, PV panel transconductance, supplied power, and grid inductance is performed using the proposed small-signal model. Analytical and experimental results carried out on a 100-kW PV inverter are presented.
- PublicationMicrogrid architectures for low voltage distributed generation(Elsevier, 2015-03) Patrao Herrero, Iván; Figueres Amorós, Emilio; Garcerá Sanfeliú, Gabriel; González Medina, Raúl; Dpto. de Ingeniería Electrónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Grupo de Sistemas Electrónicos Industriales; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad[EN] The high penetration of distributed generators, most of them based on renewable energy sources, is modifying the traditional structure of the electric distribution grid. If the power of distributed generators is high enough to feed the loads of a certain area, this area could be disconnected from the main grid and operate in islanded mode. Microgrids are composed by distributed generators, energy storage devices, intelligent circuit breakers and local loads. In this paper, a review of the main microgrid architectures proposed in the literature has been carried out. The microgrid architectures are first classified regarding their AC or DC distribution buses. Besides, more complex microgrid architectures are shown. Both advantages and disadvantages of each one of the microgrid families are discussed.
- PublicationAnalysis of active islanding detection methods for grid-connected microinverters for renewable energy processing(Elsevier, 2010) Trujillo Rodríguez, Cesar Leonardo; Velasco de la Fuente, David; Figueres Amorós, Emilio; Garcerá Sanfeliú, Gabriel; Dpto. de Ingeniería Electrónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Grupo de Sistemas Electrónicos Industriales; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación[EN] This paper presents the analysis and comparison of the main active techniques for islanding detection used in grid-connected microinverters for power processing of renewable energy sources. These techniques can be classified into two classes: techniques introducing positive feedback in the control of the inverter and techniques based on harmonics injection. Accurate PSIMTM simulations have been carried out in order to perform a comparative analysis of the techniques under study and to establish their advantages and disadvantages according to IEEE standards.
