In photovoltaic (PV) double-stage grid-connected inverters a high-frequency DC-DC isolation and voltage step-up stage is commonly used between the panel and the grid-connected inverter. This paper is focused on the modeling and control design of DC-DC converters with Peak Current mode Control (PCC) and an external control loop of the PV panel voltage, which works following a voltage reference provided by a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm. In the proposed overall control structure the output voltage of the DC-DC converter is regulated by the grid-connected inverter. Therefore, the inverter may be considered as a constant voltage load for the development of the small-signal model of the DC-DC converter, whereas the PV panel is considered as a negative resistance. The sensitivity of the control loops to variations of the power extracted from the PV panel and of its voltage is studied. The theoretical analysis is corroborated by frequency response measurements on a 230 W experimental inverter working from a single PV panel. The inverter is based on a Flyback DC-DC converter operating in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) followed by a PWM full-bridge single-phase inverter. The time response of the whole system (DC-DC + inverter) is also shown to validate the concept. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. [EN] In photovoltaic (PV) systems, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is needed to maximize the energy obtained from the PV strings [1] , [2] . A bad tracking of the maximum power point (MPP) degrades the overall performance of the photovoltaic facilities [3] , [4] , [5] , [6] . The panels in a PV string may be working under different operating conditions of irradiance and temperature because of eventual shades produced by near obstacles, different orientation of modules or dusting, resulting in the partial shadowing phenomenon [7] , [8] .

An Adaptive Digital Control Technique for Improved Performance of Grid Connected Inverters
(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2013) González Espín, Francisco José; Patrao Herrero, Iván; Figueres Amorós, Emilio; Garcerá Sanfeliú, Gabriel; Dpto. de Ingeniería Electrónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Grupo de Sistemas Electrónicos Industriales; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad
Grid connected voltage source inverters may be controlled in the stationary reference frame by means of the infinite impulse response (IIR) P+Resonat regulator. This regulator is able to correctly track fixed frequency sinusoidal references, but does not perform well if the frequency of the electric grid voltage is varied. In order to avoid the lack of precision to track variable frequency sinusoidal references, an adaptive IIR filter structure is proposed which offers good tracking properties even if the frequency of the grid voltage varies. This filter adapts its coefficients in real time and is inherently stable no matter the adaptation process, thus overcoming one of the most important drawbacks of the IIR filter structure. Furthermore, this structure is perfectly suited to be programmed in fixed point digital signal processors (DSPs) because of some important numeric properties, i.e., it has a high mapping precision and a low round-off accumulation, and it avoids quantization limit cycle oscillations. The proposed adaptive controller has been tested by means of the TI TMS320F2812 DSP. The obtained experimental results show up that this controller allows the correct tracking of a sinusoidal reference, even if this reference is time variant.
