They have also been considered as an interesting communication tool for addressing the presentation of these assets to the audiences because virtual immersive environments presentations are an easy and meaningful way to understand the archaeological remains. However, the 3D reconstruction of archaeological sites is challenging, because some of most of the parts of the assets do not exist nowadays. This paper presents a methodology for the the 3D photorealistic virtual reconstruction of the Iberian settlement Castellet de Bernabé (Llíria, Spain).
- PublicationAnalysis of tourist flows and the comfort of guided tours in the Seu-Cathedral district of Valencia using participant observation and digital itinerary monitoring tools(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2024-07-10) Teruel, Maria-Dolores; Viñals Blasco, Mª José; Orozco Carpio, Patricio Rodrigo; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Dpto. de Ingeniería Cartográfica Geodesia y Fotogrametría; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Centro de Investigación en Ingeniería Mecánica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Métodos de Producción de Software - ProS; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[ES] One of the challenges facing tourist destinations is to increase knowledge about aspects such as security concerning its implementation, measurement and evaluation to ensure the comfort of the visit. Tourist groups, both spontaneous and organised, that pass through the historic centre of a city are a permanent and fundamental element in the development of the tourist experience. However, it is necessary to know the routes taken by the guided groups to avoid concentrations of visitors that could impede mobility and hinder the daily lives of other residents. To obtain more information about this tourist activity, this study focuses on the study of the group's situations of insecurity and discomfort during the tour. The methodology consisted of participant observation on the routes usually followed by these guided groups applied to the Seu-Cathedral neighbourhood in Valencia. The Wikilocs tool was also used to monitor the route and detect the number of encounters and places of congestion. The results point to the need to plan the safety aspects of the visits, especially traffic and transit obstacles, the identification of congestion situations and the holding of periodic events, as well as the study of shaded areas and the incorporation of outdoor furniture to increase the number of visitors.

- PublicationEl Castillo de La Vilavella (Castellón). Estudios y primeras actuaciones de conservación(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2020-05-15) Mileto, Camilla; Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando; García Soriano, Lidia; Tomás Márquez, Salvador; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Dpto. de Composición Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible; Agencia Estatal de Investigación[EN] The castle of La Vilavella (Castellón) stands on the slopes of San Sebastián, and its various constructions follow the craggy relief of the hill, on the outskirts of the town to the west. The castle is currently an imposing ruin on top of a hill, a landmark which dominates the inland landscape as well as the plains to the sea. Part of the castle’s walled complex, which stretches along 230 m of the local topography with a maximum width of 60 m, is conserved. The walled complex incorporates a sequence of towers of different types, forms, and constructive techniques which reflect the different periods in which the complex was built. This article aims to present the conservation project carried out in the castle, as well as the prior analyses and completed work based on these. The starting point for this conservation project was that the actions on a major heritage asset such as this constitute another phase for learning about its material history. They also make it possible to continue research into its material and constructive history through new archaeological excavations such as the study of its constructive elements. The interventions carried out aim to respect the construction of the castle at both a material and aesthetic level, returning it to a physical condition which honours its history and helps prolong its useful life. The conservation work carried out, necessary to ensure consolidation, has focused mostly on the walls of the different structures and adaptation and musealisation actions of the castle complex.
- PublicationCitizenship as an active subject for recovery of the heritage of social housing in Modern Movement at Valencian Community, Spain(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-05-22) Sosa Espinosa, Asenet; La Spina, V.; Navarro Camallonga, Pablo; Songel Gonzalez, Juan María; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Facultad de Administración y Dirección de Empresas; Dpto. de Urbanismo; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio; Dpto. de Composición Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible; Generalitat Valenciana[EN] Given the complexity of the heritage project and current urban regeneration processes, citizen participation, as central point for good governance and sustainability, is of vital importance. Contributing to the knowledge of architecture of social housing in the Modern Movement requires an approach to social reality of its residents, identifying and recognizing the living heritage values from social perception and practice. That is why accession of residents as active subjects in this process is essential, but also for subsequent elaboration of strategies for revitalization, updating and sustainable recovery, environmental and social, which will not affect the preservation of existing values in this historical-cultural heritage of our cities. Likewise, participatory processes in this field of work have, at the same time, a pedagogical task, in the way of publicizing values of modern heritage in order to achieve its recognition and appreciation by society. This paper presents the approach from field of citizen participation and potential participatory methodologies that guide the research work, specifically, within the framework of the Momovivso research project, focused on possibilities of recovery and conservation of social housing of the Modern Movement in the Valencian Community, Spain.
- PublicationComplex Spaces in HBIM Models: Volumetric Visualization for a Data Insertion(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2024-07-24) Vieira de Souza Rolim, Renan Cornélio; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Ingeniería Mecánica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Métodos de Producción de Software - ProS; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación[ES] In recent years, digital technologies are increasingly being used to document and monitor heritage buildings, acting as decision support tools for technicians and managers working in these buildings. Among the most widely used tools, HBIM (Heritage Building Information Modeling) as a methodology for virtual documentation of information on heritage buildings and their life cycle, and sensors as tools for recording environmental data of extreme relevance for preventive conservation, maintenance and visitor management in heritage buildings stand out. This paper presents a 3D modelling process using BIM software, where the model allows a more accurate measurement of the volume of interior spaces in rooms bounded by complex ceilings. This process also makes it possible to visualise the spatial volume in 3D as well as to attribute informative parameters to it. For this purpose, the vaults of the church of the Real Colegio-Seminario del Patriarca in Valencia, Spain, have been used as a case study.
- PublicationComprehensive Methodology for Documenting the Defense Towers of the Valencian Coast (Spain)(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-10-16) Rodríguez Navarro, Pablo; Gil Piqueras, María Teresa; Verdiani, Giorgio; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] For years we have approached the architectural heritage through the traditional drawings, based on data collection taken from sketches and point to point measurements; however, today we can rely on different systems that make necessary to consider not only the phases of the elevation but the methodology to follow, constituting in itself a study that needs to be addressed from the knowledge of advanced data collection techniques. Thus we must analyze what is special about the work and what are our research needs, which will give rise to a list of products to be obtained and will result in a number of plans to scale, photogrammetries, 3D models, pictures and videos. Only then will we obtain the appropriate methodology which may include traditional direct surveys, photogrammetric surveys (2D correction, 3D restitution), 3D laser scans, drones, photographs, spherical panoramic photographs, video, etc. In the present communication we describe the process followed in determining the methodology that is being carried out in the elevation of a building corpus that presents special characteristics due to the diversity of geographical locations and the dimensions and materials used, as well as its conservation status.
- PublicationCOMUNICACIÓN ESTRATÉGICA APLICADA AL DESTINO TURÍSTICOCULTURAL DE CARTAGENA (MURCIA- ESPAÑA)(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2016-10-27) Teruel Serrano, María Dolores; Viñals Blasco, Mª José; Dpto. de Economía y Ciencias Sociales; Dpto. de Ingeniería Cartográfica Geodesia y Fotogrametría; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Escuela Politécnica Superior de Gandia; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] Arqueological heritage is presented as a development resource of tourism in Mediterranean destinations. The work of public managers to reach obtain balance in conservation-tourism is a challenge to achieve in the majority of heritage destinations. So that, among other tourist management tools, strategic communication through ICT offers a great value considering the behaviour of virtual approaches to heritage by users, in a planned manner, can well perform if objectives are assigned beyond the promotional or informational ones. Thus, in an attempt to futher focus on this topic, this research work was suggested as an objective to identify the communicative capacities of three tourist and cultural websites of Cartagena (Murcia-Spain). This was carried out by a methodological tool of analyses and evaluation (called Comunicative Eficiencia Survey). The results hightlight the potential of strategic communication and the opportunity to attribute it higher uses in heritage and tourism management.
- PublicationConfiguring, building and inhabiting the house from a gender perspective(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-09-13) Lidón de Miguel, María; Mileto, Camilla; Vegas López-Manzanares, Fernando; Hueto Escobar, Alicia; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Dpto. de Composición Arquitectónica; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible; Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte[EN] The study of vernacular architecture allows to know a culture through its domestic constructions. It also permits learning from its values to apply them in new architecture. In order to achieve both objectives, it seems pertinent to gain an in-depth knowledge of the reality, something which involves questioning what this traditional habitat means for each member of the community. Gender, as a category of analysis, is applied in a research on the vernacular architecture of the Mossi culture and its transformation, as an initial approach to the study of the role which women have played in relation to this traditional habitat. This analysis was based on a literature review which was subsequently contrasted with data collected during two stays in the village of Baasneere (Burkina Faso) in 2018. The study, which considers the role women have played in the configuration, construction and use of dwellings, shows two opposing aspects of the house: its essence as a setting for tradition-based power relations and a flexible nature capable of easily accommodating change. Finally, the research raises the possibility of investigating how women's relationship with inhabiting and building the house varies with the modernisation of architecture.
- PublicationCriterios de combinación de colores para la arquitectura en Salubra I: estudio de tonos(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2016-03-03) Serra Lluch, Juan de Ribera; Llopis Verdú, Jorge; Torres Barchino, Ana María; Giménez Ribera, Manuel; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] We have carried out a new study of the color combinations selected by Le Corbusier in the ‘claviers’ for the Salubra wallpaper company in 1931, by analyzing them in the Natural Color System NCS, which allows us to understand the perceptive variables of colors (hue, blackness and chromaticness) as well as their combination criteria. In this paper, the selected hue ranges are discussed, and those absent ones. We aim to find out the underlying order in the color combinations by studying the similarities and contrasts of their hues in NCS. We demonstrate graphically some principles in Le Corbusier’s color preferences, such as the usual resource of contrasting cool with warm colors, something slightly different to the traditional contrast of complementary colors. The complete work has been published in Color Research and Application © Wiley Periodicals. Color combination criteria in Le Corbusier's Purist architecture based on Salubra claviers from 1931.
- PublicationLa decoración lítica de las Torres de Serranos de Valencia(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2020-05-15) López González, María Concepción; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] The apparent austerity of this powerful door of the Christian wall of the city of Valencia built in 1392 by Pere Balaguer, encloses a magnificent and rich decoration of carved stone. The intervention aimed at cleaning the stone promoted by the City Council, allowed an in-depth study of the ornamentation that had not been previously carried out. A graphic study of all the pieces of carved stone that decorate the Towers was made. The different types of decoration carved in stone were established according to three parameters: according to their function, according to the theme or ornamental motif and according to the type of size used. Likewise, comparative analyzes were established with other buildings constructed in the Crown of Aragon at the same time. This study showed the influences and collaborations between stonework workshops that worked in different geographical points.

- PublicationDel castillo medieval al palacio-fortaleza(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2015-10-16) López González, María Concepción; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Edificación; Centro de Investigación en Arquitectura, Patrimonio y Gestion para el desarrollo Sostenible[EN] During the Middle Ages in Valencia (Spain) innumerable castles, which eventually were abandoned and forgotten with the consequent ruin of their structures were built. Most of the construction material was reused in nearby homes. However, some of them continued inhabited, adapting to new social needs, which involved establishing spatial restructuring, extensions to locate new uses, specific reforms and opening new holes or divisions stays. To this must be added the reforms designed to increase comfort and beautification through factories based polychrome ornaments or decorative elements. The patios of weapons become arcaded courtyards and guard posts in private rooms. There are great examples of this type of transition fortified unfortunately have not stood the test of time, but which is still possible to appreciate its past splendor. This paper aims to identify patterns that are usually followed for the conversion of these castles palaces and establish an inventory of those fortifications whose conservation status still allows his speech, both aimed at the consolidation of structures to prevent total ruin as rehabilitation interventions in those who are in better shape. The data and results presented in this paper are the result of the research project entitled "Castles and fortresses in the province of Valencia" subsidized public call by the Universitat Politècnica de València

In the preliminary phase of the project, which is presented in this paper, we describe the initial experiences developed during 2013-2014 by some teachers who teach in the GGT. In this project, we have collaborated with researchers from the GTI-IA1 group of the UPV that have developed a tool for automatic group formation based on the Belbin’s Roles Taxonomy. The methodology that we are developing takes as starting point data from the Belbin profiles of students, obtained through surveys conducted by students at the end of a given task in a particular subject. This information is used to establish new work teams to address a new task in the same or in other subjects. The methodology is evaluated through surveys in which students express their satisfaction with respect to the performance of the team after every task. The initial results show that the line we are following seems to be suitable for the development of the teamwork competence. We are currently working on more advanced stages within the framework of a project of the UPV PIME, in order to improve and complete the implementation of this methodology.
