- Publication0-shot text classification for web-based environmental indicators: Pilot study on B-Corp data(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-09-22) Cruciata, Pietro; Pulizzotto, Davide; Héroux-Vaillancourt, Mikäel; Beaudry, Catherine[EN] This paper proposes a tool that uses web-based information to generate a proxy for the environmental culture indicator developed by B-Lab. The tool is based on recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP), such as pre-trained language models like BART that better capture the semantic facets of natural language. The algorithm and data provide several advantages, including real-time analysis, minimal building cost, granularity, and a large sample size, making it appealing. The Zero-shot text classification task is used to create an indicator of companies' environmental culture, which was chosen due to the urgency created by recent climatic events, pushing for increased environmental protection and sustainability culture promotion. The tool was tested on the B-CORP dataset, which provides scores on environmental performance. Results indicate that scores for certain environmental topics generated by the tool are correlated with B-Lab's environmental indicator. This research open door to the possibility of predicting the environmental readiness of the companies base on web-based indicators.
- Publication00000000X. Estrategias y cuestiones de la postfotográfica(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-10-23) Andres Sanz, Maria[EN] In the nineties starts talking about a postfographic era in which the photographic paradigm as a model of realism overcome or not, hybrid images will be developed where the real and the virtual begin to mixed. Thus arises the concept of postV photography which will be referred to the photographic after "the death of photography". This is a remarkable change in the photographic field in which the processes and behaviors of digital technology have displaced, broken and subverted the adjudicated beliefs attributed to traditional photography. Freed from old issues, digital photography becomes a tool of high potential in the artistic field. Using the same postVphotographic strategies used by the media, 00000000X is an artistic proposal that, besides analyzing and denouncing certain iconic excesses that take place in our society, reclaims the doubleVedged sword in which digital photography has become. Placing special emphasis on the selfVreflection that postVphotography has on the medium itself. Thus, the main objective of this research is to find a correlation between the images presented in the 00000000X project and the uses that postVphotographic strategies make possible: the problem of not distinguishing between reality and fiction when experiencing new media and technologies in old and familiar contexts; identify as a true image without real referent through mimetic and code discourse; the possibility of correcting what is already done by the operation of the "second shutter", etc. These issues will illustrate how the skepticism surrounding postVphotography, together with the creative process it enables, makes it the ideal medium for reflection on issues such as representation and reality. Concluding that postVphotographic practice is particularly the imageVact proposed by Roland

- Publication1940 - 1944 : « On meurt de soif » mais les eaux sont mortes. La portée symbolique de l’eau chez les écrivains français sous l’Occupation(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-03-20) Saiz-Cerreda, María[EN] In 1940 occupied France, living conditions are so bad that the French find it difficult to survive. Nevertheless, however dreadful their material conditions, nothing can compare with the degradation of the soul’s life, the absence of the spiritual. The French suffer from hunger and cold, but, worse still, their soul dies. They lose their identity little by little. « The soul is today so void. We die of thirst », exclaimed Antoine de Saint-Exupéry in a letter to his mother dated 1940 (1994 : 83). Nevertheless, we cannot quench our thirst because there is only « this cesspool » (Saint-Exupéry, 1994 : 310). The pain is unbearable since it is the French spiritual patrimony that is at stake, a situation noted by numerous writers. The essence of life, the clear, clean water that grants life, turns into water of death, « a water that needs to go somber, a water that will absorb the dark suffering. All running water is destined to become slow, heavy. All running water is water about to die » (Bachelard, 1942 : 65-66). Life is choked, as explains Bachelard (1942 : 65), and there are only stagnant waters, « dead waters » (1942 : 63). In this paper I aim to show how writers feel and manifest this crisis, this loss of identity, this death ; and how they propose writing as a means of healing, as a way to salvation, particularly thanks to the autobiographical action. Writing will be the only place where they can quench their thirst

- Publication2D strain rate and ground deformation modelling from continuous and survey mode GNSS data in El Hierro, Canary Islands(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-01-27) Arnoso, José; Riccardi, Umberto; Tammaro, Umberto; Benavent, Maite; Montesinos, Fuensanta; Vélez, Emilio; Agencia Estatal de Investigación[EN] We present a study of the deformation pattern in El Hierro Island through the analysis of GNSS data from surveys carried out between 2015 and 2019 as well as continuous data. The last eruption in El Hierro occurred under the sea on the south rift, lasted from October 2011 to March 2012, and it was preceded by intense seismic activity and nearly 5 cm ground inflation. After this eruptive cycle, further magmatic intrusions were detected, from June 2012 to March 2014, associated to intense seismic swarms and inflation (about 22 cm of uplift). Nevertheless, these magmatic intrusions did not culminate in any eruption. Following these post-eruptive episodes, the seismic activity became less intense. Thus, for the period of this study, about 500 earthquakes with magnitude ranging from mbLG 2 to mbLG 3.9 were recorded, the ground deformation measured is of lower magnitude, still remaining a slight uplift trend in the GNSS stations up to 2017 and followed by a slight subsidence of about 1.5 cm between 2017-2019. Our purpose is to explain the ground displacements measured and the earthquake occurrence in terms of geodynamics and seismotectonic activity along the island, for the period 2015-2019. Firstly, we retrieved the geodetic velocities from the GNSS daily solutions. Secondly, we computed the 2D infinitesimal strain rates from the velocities through a triangular segmentation approach to map the deformation pattern along the respective GNSS surveys.

- Publication3 + 2 pa(i)sajes sonoros de Prieto + Ruiz sobre la guerra(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-07-15) Prieto Martín, José; Ruiz Capellán, Vega[EN] The following statement is about the soundscape of Prieto/Ruiz of some installations that reinterpret “work in progress”, according to the exhibiting necessities 1. Alert or the city of glass (1992- 2003), shows how fragile is the urban space. It came up from the Persian Gulf War (1991). The purpose was to make the spectator to think about the continuous insecurity state in which everybody is expose, because cities can be destroying. For making it possible we decided to simulate a skimpy instant previous of the bombing of a city, creating an alert situation. Alerta’s soundscape were created by recovering sounds related with warlike noise. 2. Refuge (2001), began to develop in Guernica in 2000. There we had the opportunity to gather testimonies of the survivors of the bombing. For building its Testimonies soundscape, we were specially interested in the live through experience’s by the refuge survivors confined in limited physical spaces. Also in 2018, due to the 80th anniversary of the end of the battle of Teruel, we created No. Nos restaureis, with came from the destruction of the matter for later making a reconstruction of it with the pieces found. So that, it is form by fragments of altarpieces destroy during the bombing and by soundscape Inmemorian. 3. Souvenirs (2002-11), work inspirited by archaeology with wants to personify a compendium of soldiers of the twentieth century. It came up because of the 11S attacks. It consists of a ceramic army which advances to the centre of the earth, to contradict the usual process of disinterment in any archaeological excavation. It has two soundscapes: Phamphet (2002) with voices of journalists talking about the wars during the twentieth century, and the direct testimony of the objector, Félix Romeo. Historie d´un soldat (2005), narrate the history of some soldiers that participated in the Normandy's landing.
- Publication3D DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES TO RECORD EXCAVATION DATA: THE CASE OF THE CATACOMBS OF ST. LUCY (SIRACUSA, SICILY)(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2016-10-27) Gradante, Ilenia; Sgarlata, Mariarita; Tanasi, Davide[EN] Between 2013 and 2015, Arcadia University in partnership with the Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology and the University of Catania undertook new excavation campaigns in the Catacombs of St. Lucy at Siracusa. The research focuses on some very problematic parts of Region C of the complex, including Oratory C, the so-called Pagan Shrine and Crypt VI. These areas document most effectively the long life of this Christian hypogeum, which incorporated previous structures and artefacts related to the Greek period and continued to be used until the Middle Ages. During the excavation an array of 3D digital techniques (3D scanning, 3d Modelling, Image-based 3D modelling) was used for the daily recording of the archaeological units, but also to create high-resolution virtual replicas of certain districts of the catacombs. Furthermore, the same techniques were applied to support the study of certain classes of materials, such as frescoes and marble architectural elements that could otherwise only be studied in the dark environment of the catacombs, making the visual analysis of such complex artifacts difficult and sometimes misleading, not to mention that the frequent use of strong sources of light for study can also endanger them. The virtual archaeology research undertaken at the Catacombs of St. Lucy represents the first systematic application of 3D digital technologies to the study of such a special archaeological context in Sicily.
