- PublicationA proposal for a methodology of documentation to be applied to an altarpiece conservation and restoration project(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-12-27) Díaz Parrilla, Silvia; Sánchez Fernández, Antonio Jesús; Díaz Alemán, Manuel Drago; de la Torre Cantero, Jorge Luis; Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información; European Social Fund[EN] Documenting altarpieces according to their formal characteristics and three-dimensionality is a challenge that we can currently address through the use of documentation techniques already used in the immovable cultural heritage field. This study includes the process of developing a digital model of an altarpiece that, through an approach to HBIM methodology, captures its physical configuration to be turned it into a holder of information on technical aspects, state of conservation and interventions carried out. This process contemplates a previous stage of approximation to the object of study, the definition of the uses of the model, and the configuration of a collaborative environment from which information can be added and exchanged. The academic use of the three-dimensional model will guarantee the comprehensive knowledge of the altarpiece, being initially a model for reference and later for management, by recording the interventions carried out by the students, for didactic and dissemination purposes.
- PublicationCanary banana exports. Are product withdrawal decisions rational?(Universitat Politècnica de València, 2014-01-08) Cáceres-Hernández, José Juan; Martín Rodríguez, Gloria; González Gómez, José Ignacio; Nuez Yánez, Juan Sebastián; Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información[EN] During the last years, Canary banana suppliers have made the decision to withdraw a significant part of their exportable supply from the Iberian Peninsula market. In this paper, an analytical tool is provided to evaluate the marginal effects of these decisions on revenues and profit. The key element is the estimation of a model to explain prices as a function of exports. The optimal export levels obtained from this procedure should be cautiously taken due to limitations on statistical information, but should be seen as a guide to the decision making process.
- PublicationGenerative semantic mechanisms within morphologically complex words(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2012-07-01) Sosa Acevedo, Eulalia; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; Agencia Canaria de Investigación, Innovación y Sociedad de la Información[EN] This paper seeks to introduce an alternative perspective on the treatment of derivation within afunctional framework like Role and Reference Grammar (RRG). By taking a functional perspective, we assume that word formation is a two-dimensional phenomenon involving both onomasiological and grammatical components. Furthermore, grammatical processes are considered to be semantically motivated. In order to properly account for the internal mechanisms involved in word formation, we formulate affixal lexical representations by using Lexical Templates as devised within the LCM (see Mairal Usón & Faber 2007; Mairal Usón & Ruíz de Mendoza 2008a,b; Ruiz de Mendoza & Mairal Usón 2008; Butler 2009; Cortés Rodríguez 2009, among others).
[EN] This paper aims at describing how about, at least and nearly are used in the nineteenth-century subcorpus of the Corpus of Women s Instructive Texts in English, which gathers instructional texts exclusively written by women. While still retaining their approximative sense, about, at least and nearly have a large potential to build and maintain writer-reader interpersonal relationships. The most frequent collocational patterns have been firstly identified by using corpus tools to later analyse the major pragmatic functions of specific examples following Zhang s (2015) framework for elastic language. Findings reveal that collocations with numerical expressions are common to about, at least and nearly while other patterns only emerge with about and nearly. It also seems that pattern and function are tightly interwoven. In general, the approximators surveyed here fulfill a variety of interpersonal functions, most notably, just-right elastic, rapport elastic, mitigating elastic, self-protection elastic, and intensifying elastic.
