- Publication0-shot text classification for web-based environmental indicators: Pilot study on B-Corp data(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2023-09-22) Cruciata, Pietro; Pulizzotto, Davide; Héroux-Vaillancourt, Mikäel; Beaudry, Catherine[EN] This paper proposes a tool that uses web-based information to generate a proxy for the environmental culture indicator developed by B-Lab. The tool is based on recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP), such as pre-trained language models like BART that better capture the semantic facets of natural language. The algorithm and data provide several advantages, including real-time analysis, minimal building cost, granularity, and a large sample size, making it appealing. The Zero-shot text classification task is used to create an indicator of companies' environmental culture, which was chosen due to the urgency created by recent climatic events, pushing for increased environmental protection and sustainability culture promotion. The tool was tested on the B-CORP dataset, which provides scores on environmental performance. Results indicate that scores for certain environmental topics generated by the tool are correlated with B-Lab's environmental indicator. This research open door to the possibility of predicting the environmental readiness of the companies base on web-based indicators.
- Publication00000000X. Estrategias y cuestiones de la postfotográfica(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2017-10-23) Andres Sanz, Maria[EN] In the nineties starts talking about a postfographic era in which the photographic paradigm as a model of realism overcome or not, hybrid images will be developed where the real and the virtual begin to mixed. Thus arises the concept of postV photography which will be referred to the photographic after "the death of photography". This is a remarkable change in the photographic field in which the processes and behaviors of digital technology have displaced, broken and subverted the adjudicated beliefs attributed to traditional photography. Freed from old issues, digital photography becomes a tool of high potential in the artistic field. Using the same postVphotographic strategies used by the media, 00000000X is an artistic proposal that, besides analyzing and denouncing certain iconic excesses that take place in our society, reclaims the doubleVedged sword in which digital photography has become. Placing special emphasis on the selfVreflection that postVphotography has on the medium itself. Thus, the main objective of this research is to find a correlation between the images presented in the 00000000X project and the uses that postVphotographic strategies make possible: the problem of not distinguishing between reality and fiction when experiencing new media and technologies in old and familiar contexts; identify as a true image without real referent through mimetic and code discourse; the possibility of correcting what is already done by the operation of the "second shutter", etc. These issues will illustrate how the skepticism surrounding postVphotography, together with the creative process it enables, makes it the ideal medium for reflection on issues such as representation and reality. Concluding that postVphotographic practice is particularly the imageVact proposed by Roland

- Publication10 Gbit/s error-free DPSK modulation using a push-pull dual-drive silicon modulator(Elsevier, 2013-09-01) Aamer, Mariam; Thomson, D. J.; Gutiérrez Campo, Ana María; Brimont, Antoine Christian Jacques; Gardes, F. Y.; Reed, G. T.; Fedeli, J. M.; Håkansson, Ola Andreas; Sanchis Kilders, Pablo; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación; Dpto. de Comunicaciones; Instituto Universitario de Tecnología Nanofotónica; Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Reino Unido; European Commission; Generalitat Valenciana[EN] We experimentally demonstrate a high-speed differential phase shift keying (DPSK) modulation using a silicon push-pull operated dual-drive Mach Zehnder modulator (MZM) based on carrier depletion. 5 Gbit/s and 10 Gbit/s error-free modulation is demonstrated by demodulating the generated DPSK modulated signal using a demodulation circuit based on a polarization delay interferometer through the use of a differential group delay (DGD). Furthermore, the potential for higher DPSK modulation speeds up to 20 Gbit/s is also demonstrated. The obtained results validate the potential to achieve higher order modulation formats, such as quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), by arranging the MZM in a nested configuration. - Publication105 K Wide Room Temperature Spin Transition Memory Due to a Supramolecular Latch Mechanism(American Chemical Society, 2022-08-10) Seredyuk, Maksym; Znovjyak, Kateryna; Valverde-Muñoz, Francisco Javier; da Silva, Ivan; Muñoz Roca, María del Carmen; Moroz, Yurii S.; Real, José Antonio; Dpto. de Física Aplicada; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Centro de Tecnologías Físicas: Acústica, Materiales y Astrofísica; Unión Europea; Generalitat Valenciana; Universitat de València; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine[EN] Little is known about the mechanisms behind the bistability (memory) of molecular spin transition compounds over broad temperature ranges (>100 K). To address this point, we report on a new discrete Fe-II neutral complex [(FeL2)-L-II](0) (1) based on a novel asymmetric tridentate ligand 2-(5-(3-methoxy-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)-6-(1H-pyrazol-1-yl))pyridine (L). Due to the asymmetric cone-shaped form, in the lattice, the formed complex molecules stack into a one-dimensional (1D) supramolecular chain. In the case of the rectangular supramolecular arrangement of chains in methanolates 1-A and 1-B (both orthorhombic, Pbcn) differing, respectively, by bent and extended spatial conformations of the 3-methoxy groups (3MeO), a moderate cooperativity is observed. In contrast, the hexagonal-like arrangement of supramolecular chains in polymorph 1-C (monoclinic, P2(1)/c) results in steric coupling of the transforming complex species with the peripheral flipping 3MeO group. The group acts as a supramolecular latch, locking the huge geometric distortion of complex 1 and in turn the trigonal distortion of the central Fe-II ion in the high-spin state, thereby keeping it from the transition to the low-spin state over a large thermal range. Analysis of the crystal packing of 1-C reveals significantly changing patterns of close intermolecular interactions on going between the phases substantiated by the energy framework analysis. The detected supramolecular mechanism leads to a record-setting robust 105 K wide hysteresis spanning the room temperature region and an atypically large T-LIESST relaxation value of 104 K of the photoexcited high-spin state. This work highlights a viable pathway toward a new generation of cleverly designed molecular memory materials.

- Publication111 oriented gold nanoplatelets on multilayer graphene as visible light photocatalyst for overall water splitting(Nature Publishing Group, 2016-06-06) Mateo Mateo, Diego; Esteve Adell, Iván; Albero Sancho, Josep; Sánchez Royo, Juan Francisco; Primo Arnau, Ana María; García Gómez, Hermenegildo; Instituto Universitario Mixto de Tecnología Química; Dpto. de Química; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Generalitat Valenciana; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad[EN] Development of renewable fuels from solar light appears as one of the main current challenges in energy science. A plethora of photocatalysts have been investigated to obtain hydrogen and oxygen from water and solar light in the last decades. However, the photon-to-hydrogen molecule conversion is still far from allowing real implementation of solar fuels. Here we show that 111 facet-oriented gold nanoplatelets on multilayer graphene films deposited on quartz is a highly active photocatalyst for simulated sunlight overall water splitting into hydrogen and oxygen in the absence of sacrificial electron donors, achieving hydrogen production rate of 1.2 molH2 per gcomposite per h. This photocatalytic activity arises from the gold preferential orientation and the strong gold–graphene interaction occurring in the composite system.
- Publication11B-MAS NMR approach to the boron adsorption mechanism on a glucose-functionalised mesoporous silica matrix(Elsevier, 2018) Sanfeliu Cano, Cristina; Martínez Mañez, Ramón; Sancenón Galarza, Félix; Soto Camino, Juan; Amorós, Pedro; Azaïs, T.; Marcos Martínez, María Dolores; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Dpto. de Química; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial; Instituto Interuniversitario de Investigación de Reconocimiento Molecular y Desarrollo Tecnológico; Generalitat Valenciana; Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación; Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad[EN] Boron chemistry has raised much interest because, despite the difference between necessities and toxicity being very narrow, it is still widely used in industrial processes. In a previous work we reported an adsorbent for boron extraction from water by the functionalisation of a UVM-7 mesoporous silica matrix with gluconamide moieties. The ability of this material to adsorb boron is based on its well-known affinity for coordinating the cis-diols present in attached saccharide. Although much research on the formation of boron esters with sugars and sugar derivatives in solution has been done, very few reports have dealt with the adsorption mechanism of boron onto functionalised materials in the solid state. Hence an in-depth study of the adsorption process was conducted in this paper. For this purpose, several solids with increasing boron contents were prepared from the gluconamide-functionalised UVM-7 material and an isothermal boron adsorption curve was obtained. The B-11 and C-13 MAS NMR techniques were used to characterise the obtained solids, and the simulation of the boron NMR and isothermal adsorption combined data was accomplished to enlighten the boron adsorption process. A model with three different coordination environments, two possible adsorption sites and the presence of oligomeric boron species allowed us to reproduce not only the isothermal boron adsorption curve, but also the evolution of the integrated areas for the signals in the B-11 MAS NMR spectra obtained for the different boron-containing gluconamide-functionalised UVM-7 materials.

- Publication143D: The underground audiovisual experiment in the face of platform commercialism(UPV/EHU Press, 2024) Pérez-Vidal, Iván[EN] At the end of the 1990s and during the first decade of the 21st century, with the spread of domestic and semi-professional video cameras, audiovisual proposals were produced prior to the creation of online video platforms that grouped around the 143Delicias festival. This article analyses the dynamics of the festival in the light of the drift of audiovisual consumption in the current late capitalist system. It reviews the proposal of the beginning of the millennium in contrast to the overexposure and absorption of the audiovisual medium by the mercantilism of the platforms. 143D is characterised by direct socialisation and active group viewing, outside of cinemas or spaces dedicated to contemporary art, where video art is experienced in a shared way, without subordination to a closed or controlled value system. The projected pieces address social and political issues through humour, using aesthetics often close to video clips, without renouncing experimentation with the media, conceptualisation, quotation, appropriationism or questioning of the audiovisual medium itself.

- Publication160-Gb/s Optical OFDM Demultiplexer based on Photonic Ring Resonators(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2012-06-20) Vilar Mateo, Ruth; Ramos Pascual, Francisco; Martí Sendra, Javier; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación; Dpto. de Comunicaciones; Instituto Universitario de Tecnología Nanofotónica; European CommissionA novel all-optical OFDM demultiplexer based on integrated photonic ring resonators (RR) is proposed and its performance validated. - Publication185 Nm Photoreduction of CO2 to methane by water. Influence of the Presence of a Basic catalyst(American Chemical Society, 2012-08-29) Sastre Calabuig, Francesc; Corma Canós, Avelino; García Gómez, Hermenegildo; Instituto Universitario Mixto de Tecnología Química; Dpto. de Química; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería IndustrialPhotolysis of CO2 at 185 nm using a Hg lamp in the presence of H-2 or H2O leads to the formation of CH4 (after an induction period) and a lesser amount of CO. Using H-2 gas as reducing agent, up to 40% conversion was achieved with almost complete selectivity to methane and energy consumption of 1.55 Gcal/mol. When CO2 irradiation is carried out in the gas phase in the presence of H2O, both reagents can undergo photolysis, and H-2 generation from water is a competing process accompanying the formation of CO and CH4 (CO2 conversion 0.67% at 14 h). For the irradiation of CO2 using H2O as reducing agent, basic solids (K+-exchanged Y zeolite or hydrotalcites) can increase CO2 conversion up to 2.21% with total selectivity toward CH4 and an energy consumption of 4.5 Gcal/mol. This result opens a door in the quest for efficient photocatalysts that could further increase the apparent quantum yield of the process, particularly at longer wavelengths.
