Las Jornadas Hacia una nueva cultura científica buscan fomentar la investigación responsable en la comunidad universitaria, en sintonía con los principios de la RRI (Responsible Research and Innovation): educación científica, igualdad de género, acceso abierto, gobernanza, ética y participación ciudadana. Desde la institución universitaria es imprescindible impulsar, formalizar, vertebrar e interiorizar estos principios, para que los esfuerzos individuales de los investigadores consigan transformar la sociedad y hacer frente a los grandes retos.
La constante transformación en las relaciones entre las personas y el mundo genera nuevos retos sociales, y requiere un enfoque colaborativo en la investigación entre equipos multi e interdisciplinarios y la ciudadanía, para responder a las demandas sociales y tratar de, en palabras de Bruno Latour, "aterrizar" juntos en un "mundo común a compartir".
Las Jornadas Hacia una nueva cultura científica forman parte del proyecto Ciudadanía científica, una iniciativa del Vicerrectorado de Arte, Ciencia, Tecnología y Sociedad (ACTS) de la Universitat Politècnica de València, para incentivar la participación ciudadana en los procesos de investigación científica e innovación tecnológica.

- PublicationAdaptación de los indicadores RRI para la evaluación socioambiental de los Centros Tecnológicos de la Comunidad Valenciana(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) García Melón, Mónica; Instituto de Gestión de la Innovación y del Conocimiento; Dpto. de Proyectos de Ingeniería; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Industrial[EN] The study of the social integration of science and innovation, as well as the responsibility of the actors in the Science Technology and Innovation system with this integration, is a topic that is increasingly requiring greater prominence. The question is currently being raised as to how the structures or actors in the STI system can be modified and, therefore, how responsable practices can be designed and integrated to induce institutional change. Technology Centres, as agents of the innovation ecosystem, are private, non-profit research organisations that have their own material and human resources necessary to carry out activities aimed at both generating technological knowledge and facilitating its exploitation, either by existing companies or by generating new business initiatives. As agents of the innovation system, their activity must contribute to the socioenvironmental advancement in their territory. In this paper we propose a methodology based on adapted RRI indicators for evaluating the social responsibility of the activities carried out in technology centre. We apply it to the specific case of the Technology Centres in the Valencian Community. The results show different degrees of maturity level for each of the RRI dimensions analysed.
- PublicationCocreando y empoderando en eHealth(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Lapuente Aguilar, Irene[EN] During the last decades, the tendency to place the patient in the center of the health service is growing. In doing this, we include the patient’s fears, problems, and wishes. Design has evolved from being led by creative genius or the technology per se to being motivated by the user’s needs. Co-creation defined as empathy plus collective creativity can solve better-framed problems with welcome solutions. Until 2020, most of the co-creation processes were done physically. The pandemic context forced the virtualization of most of these processes. We propose a comparison between offline and online participatory processes on eHealth co-creation with patients and relatives. The study of two cases carried out by the eHealth Center at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) shows us the advantages of both formats. We will analyze an offline co-creation process (pre-pandemic) and an online one (during the pandemic). Both have ended in the creation of an app: Autapp and KidneyApp. We will analyze the work done before and during the cocreation sessions, including the methodologies; as well as the patients’ acceptance and the results; to propose a mixed model on co-creation.
- PublicationCoderDojo Valencia: club inclusivo de robótica para jóvenes en la ETSID-UPV(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Llopis Carrasco, Bernat; Iborra Sales, Loli; Saiz Mauleón, María Begoña; Monsoriu Serra, Juan Antonio; Dpto. de Física Aplicada; Instituto Universitario de Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicaciones; Dpto. de Ingeniería Gráfica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Centro de Tecnologías Físicas: Acústica, Materiales y Astrofísica; Universitat Politècnica de València[EN] CoderDojo Valencia is the programming and robotics club of the Asociación ByL Iniciatives Educatives bylinedu.org, which promotes Maker culture and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) from 7 to 17 years old. It is an open and free initiative, started in 2013, to allow learning technology, programming, and computer creation in a fun and relaxed way. In addition to learning to program, inclusion and cooperation are worked on, always promoting teamwork and a collaborative spirit. Work is carried out by interest groups, and autonomous learning and critical thinking are stimulated so that they can continue with the learning and the project started in the classroom at home. Our vision is that all children and young people should have the opportunity to learn and be creative in a fun, social, and safe environment. CoderDojo Valencia collaborates with the Higher Technical School of Design Engineering (ETSID) of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), which enables workshops to be held at its facilities and has volunteer staff for the development and promotion of these Actions.
- PublicationLa Escuela Creactiva de Innovación social(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Mirón, Lourdes[EN] Jovesólides was born in 1999 in the neighborhood of preferential action La Coma, in Paterna, but the origin of the entity takes place in 1995. In this year the Colegio Mayor 'La Coma' was created. Then the young students, tenants of the educational entity, and who provided support and accompaniment to people and associations in this neighborhood, organized and formed the association. MISSION: We work for equal development opportunities, and promote an active global citizenship committed to its environment. VISION: To be a reference in the promotion of social commitment, through innovative initiatives that involve people and groups in different social challenges. VALUES: We promote human rights, respect for diversity and pluralism, within the framework of a Social and Democratic Rule of Law.

We also wake up with our mobile phones, we check our mail, we examine WhatsApp, we attend social networks, we listen to music, we examine the agenda, we read the news, etc. In short, the mobile has become a fundamental element in our lives; and much more among the youth. Thus, to the extent that we can introduce the mobile in the classroom, always in a controlled way, the students will feel much more comfortable, allowing the teaching-learning process to be much more attractive and, therefore, more profitable. The simulation of physical processes through virtual laboratories would be a way of integrating these devices in the classroom. As we will see below, the students' own smartphones can also be used as a measuring instrument in real laboratory practices (outside the virtual world) thanks to sensors that these devices have integrated.
- PublicationLa máquina del tiempo y otras formas de jugar haciendo ciencia(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) García Folgado, Adrián[EN] The following paper presents the educational project of The Time Machine, which has been carried out in a group of girls and boys from 9 to 12 years of age from the El Arca day care center (Association). Through time travel to different historical periods, they have approached the industrial revolution, with the discovery of cinema, radio, energy, electricity and mechanics. As well as delving into the possibilities that the future can offer us, with programming and robotics.
- PublicationNuevos formatos para la educación superior transdisciplinaria y sostenible: aprendizaje transformativo interior y exterior en “laboratorios reales”(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Veciana, Stella[EN] Although sustainability science and education have been promoting sustainable futures for decades, their programs still struggle to reach more notably advances in transforming the profoundly unsustainable patterns of current societies. Addressing the complex phenomena related to the challenges of planetary boundaries and climate change requires change agents endorsed by a holistic sustainable culture. A culture aimed at linking external change (of economic, ecological, social, cultural systems) with internal transformation (of mindsets, conscience, values, beliefs, motivations, etc.). However, the implementation of this inner-outer transformation approach in higher education for sustainable development is scarce. With the aim of contributing to fill this gap, this study presents one exemplary seminar out of a series of undergraduate courses taught at Leuphana University in collaboration with several German ecovillages called ‘Sustainable Community – Real World Laboratories’ (SC-RwL). The analysis reflects the results of this transformative learning environment and the transdisciplinary ‘Research Arts’ didactic applied that combines scientific methods with community and artistic practices on the basis of the students evaluation results. Subsequently, the paper discusses critically the effectiveness and challenges of the SC-RwL particularly in relation to acquired sustainability skills, and extracts transformative qualities of ecovillages. Finally, it concludes on lessons learned and how these may be included into later courses, and suggests future research.

Compartiendo recursos para la interpretación, accesibilidad y aprendizaje de arquitecturas singulares(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Puyuelo Cazorla, Marina; Fuentes Durá, Pedro; Barros Da Rocha Costa, Hugo A; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Dpto. de Ingeniería Química y Nuclear; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño; Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura; Instituto Universitario de Restauración del Patrimonio; Generalitat Valenciana[EN] This research proposes, from the substratum of graphic representation, an open platform to show and learn about different architectures with rigor and creativity. The hypothesis of the project has been the need to apply design and current production technologies to the creation of learning contents to be used freely by users, facilitating the generation of ad hoc supports and applications that can provide more versatile resources for interpretation and accessibility. This prototype of autonomous and interactive learning presents users with the challenge of creating different types of representations, with which they can develop and obtain (depending on their interests, knowledge, spatial vision, or technological skills) their own products. From descriptive and explanatory models, to understand or teach about different aspects and details of a specific building, to orientation supports, tactile resources or, simply, small souvenir or gift elements. The target audience of this project is wide and diverse: the general public, enthusiasts of practical activities and maker culture, or professionals such as teachers and the tourism sector, who need to adapt content (three-dimensional models, constructive, tactile models for blind people, etc.) to the diversity of users.

SmartTuria Hub(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Merino Sanjuan, Lola; Puyuelo Cazorla, Marina; Dpto. de Expresión Gráfica Arquitectónica; Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería del Diseño[EN] This article presents the theoretical framework and the field works experienced, in the urban Túria park in the city of Valencia. The aim of this paper is to show this public place, as an object of study for design research, where the approach of integrating the users, will lead reach more innovative, inclusive and adapted design solutions. The methods applied are ethnographic and direct observation in fieldwork, personal and online interviews for collecting the user’s voice, and in-house analyses, which can subsequently derive on useful approaches for the design project. Data obtained with this methodology, allow us a more adjusted analysis of the relationship between the user and context, while showing the possible shortcomings and aspects to improve, that will guide future intervention strategies. The first part of this paper presents the state of the art of this type of experiences in the public space, next, the singular environment of this urban park, its background and current state, its spatial configuration, connections between the different areas, urban services and furniture and, above all, its intention of relationship with multiple users. We conclude with some ideas about the suitability of this approach to basis innovation and intervention strategies at this unique environment typical of the concept of the Smart city which allow the generation of a sustainable urban landscape.
- PublicationThe American Space Valencia(Editorial Universitat Politècnica de València, 2022-11-15) Westall, Debra[EN] The American Space Valencia is a very special collaborative partnership between the US Embassy in Madrid and the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), Founded in 2013, the Space is one of some 650 worldwide, and the first in Spain. Around the world, American Spaces aim to strengthen ties between the USA and local communities by promoting English language learning, providing information about the USA, organizing cultural events, and preparing students for study in the USA. In the American Space Valencia, the majority of our activities focus on STEAM, and in this presentation, we will describe the variety of programs we offer and how we engage young learners, particularly young women, as well as underserved and migrant youth, encouraging them to broaden their horizons and participate in citizens’ science projects. We will make specific reference to the Technovation program, Makers Space events, Ocean Conservation activities and our collaboration with local NGOs, associations and schools. Additionally, we will discuss our involvement in local events related to the SDGs and processes of leadership development, scientific research and technological innovation.
